The Luau – Hawaii’s Largest Grass Volleyball Event

What began as the Lanikai Open in 2009 has grown into one of Hawaiʻi’s premier outdoor volleyball events. From its humble beginnings with just a handful of teams and courts, the tournament has evolved into a vibrant community celebration that attracts athletes and spectators from across Hawaiʻi and beyond.

Today, The Luau is hosted annually at Kailua District Park on Oʻahu, bringing together youth, recreational, collegiate, professional, and co-ed athletes for a full day of competition, culture, and community. More than 500 athletes compete across multiple divisions on over 20 grass courts, creating an exciting atmosphere for players and spectators alike.

The Luau is more than a volleyball tournament. It is a community gathering that celebrates the spirit of Hawaiʻi through sport, culture, music, and food. Spectators are welcome free of charge to enjoy competitive volleyball, live entertainment, local food vendors, cultural performances, and family-friendly activities throughout the day.

Hosted by 7Gen Culture, The Luau reflects our mission of strengthening community through sports while creating meaningful experiences that bring people together. Whether competing on the courts or cheering from the sidelines, participants become part of a unique event that celebrates athletic excellence, cultural appreciation, and the aloha spirit.
