The Luau – Hawaii’s Largest Grass Volleyball Event

What began as the “Lanikai Open” at Lanikai Park in 2009 has blossomed into one of the most anticipated grass volleyball events in Hawaii. Starting with just 8 courts and a handful of teams, the event quickly outgrew its initial venue. In 2016, it moved to the expansive fields of Turtle Bay Resort and was rebranded as the “T2” Tournament. Here, the event flourished, accommodating 23 courts and drawing in even more participants. However, the growth didn’t stop there. In 2022, seeking an even larger venue to host the increasing number of teams, we relocated to Kailua District Park and introduced “The Luau,” a name that embodies the spirit of celebration and community.

Organized in partnership with Out of System, “The Luau” has become more than just a volleyball tournament; it is a vibrant community gathering. Each year, over 500 athletes from youth, recreational, collegiate, professional, and industry co-ed divisions come together to compete on 25 courts. The event is a testament to the unifying power of sports, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds. It’s a place where friendships are formed, rivalries are celebrated, and the love of the game is shared. The tournament serves as a reminder of the importance of community and the joy that comes from coming together for a common passion.

Beyond the thrilling matches, “The Luau” offers a rich cultural experience for participants and spectators alike. Attendees can enjoy the lively beats of a live DJ, savor delicious offerings from local food trucks, and explore various vendor stalls. The atmosphere is electric, filled with the sounds, tastes, and sights that make Hawaii unique. By blending sports with music and food, “The Luau” provides an unforgettable experience that celebrates not only athletic excellence but also the vibrant culture of our community. Hosted by 7Gen Culture and Out of System, this event exemplifies our commitment to fostering community spirit and creating memorable experiences through sports.
